Making the Most of the Sunshine: Sandymouth Bay
While at the beach the Sun came out and we got a couple of good hours at the beach – a paddle in the Sea (which Dad thought was freezing), read a couple of chapters of my book as well. Continue reading

I arrived slightly too late for lunch (getting stuck behind a caravan on the A361 delayed my arrival!) so I just grabbed a roll from Tesco. We sat down on the beach for a bit – Mum and I had a paddle in the sea, and we watched the tide coming in (only a couple of hours from high tide). Continue reading
The end result was quite good, though we didn’t have any porridge oats (I thought we did) and didn’t realise this until the moment I needed them. I went to the Stratton Shop/Post Office where they had a bag of porridge oats for £1. Continue reading
Cirencester residents will have seen the article I wrote for the Cirencester Scene Magazine recently – I wrote it a couple of months ago and had forgotten it. Sticking to the word limit was rather difficult, I could easily have written 4 x that amount! Continue reading
I stayed on Friday night with my cousin Sophie at her house in the North York Moors. The drive from Edinburgh, including a stop at Berwick-upon-Tweed, took about 4 and a half hours – not bad going for a Friday afternoon. Continue reading
Boasting “all the simple ingredients for the perfect break away: Fresh air, sea and countryside, friendly folk, and rich history, Berwick-upon-Tweed is actually closer to Edinburgh than it is to Newcastle. It is also slightly further North than Copenhagen, and the Southern tip of Sweden! Sitting on the English-Scottish border it has passed between England and Scotland a number of times – most recently transferring back to England in 1482. Listening to people on the street, they sounded more Scottish than Geordie to me. Continue reading
The Scottish Parliament building is very impressive, and very modern – especially compared to the Houses of Parliament at Westminster. We had a very knowledgeable guide who not only talked about how the Scottish Parliament works, but also talked about the history of Parliament in Scotland – what lead to Devolution, etc. Continue reading
Tha togalach Pàrlamaid na h-Alba gu math drùidhteach, agus gu math ùr-nodha – gu h-àraidh an coimeas ri Taighean na Pàrlamaid aig Westminster. Bha treòraiche glè fhiosrachail againn, a bhruidhinn chan ann a-mhàin air mar a tha Pàrlamaid na h-Alba ag obair, ach cuideachd air eachdraidh na Pàrlamaid ann an Alba – dè thug gu fèin-riaghladh, agus mar sin air adhart. B’ e Sailcirc mo cheann-uidhe, far an robh mi a’ dol a thadhal air Muileann Tartain Loch Carrann airson cuairt threòraichte. B’ e cuairt gu math inntinneach a bh’ ann. Dh’ionnsaich mi mu mar a thèid tartan fhighe, mar a thèid a dhealbhadh, agus mun diofar eadar dathan Ancient, Modern agus Weathered. Tha dà dhreach aig tartanan mo theaghlaich fhìn – Ancient agus Modern. Continue reading
My destination was Selkirk, where I would be visiting the Lochcarron Tartan Mill for a guided tour. It was a very interesting tour – I learn all about how Tartan is woven, how it is designed, the difference between Ancient, Modern and Weathered colours (our own family tartans have 2 versions – Ancient and Modern). Continue reading
