Hello there! My name’s Fred.
- I work in Stock Control by day…
- …and I’m the Technical Director at Corinium Radio by night…
Balancing a day job and volunteering in radio is a bit like having 2 jobs, which means I am very busy!
I live with my parents in Cirencester, Gloucestershire. I’ve lived here all my life; I went to school and college in Cirencester and studied at the University of Gloucestershire in Cheltenham – graduating with a 2:1 BA (Hons) in Radio Production in 2014.
After finishing university I was unemployed for a few months, during which time I spent a month in London doing some work experience with the Jeremy Vine Show at BBC Radio 2.
In December 2014 I got my first job working in Stock Control at the Central Distribution Centre for a national company which sells central heating spares.
These days I juggle my full time job with a weekly radio show and frequent holidays and short breaks to destinations across Greece and the German-speaking world.
When I’m neither working nor broadcasting, I love driving my car to just about everywhere – either to visit family in Britain, and I’m not scared of driving abroad either!
Since 2006 I have colunteered for Cirencester’s radio station Corinium Radio which celebrated its 10th anniversary year in 2016. Initially volunteering only as a presenter/producer, I’ve taken responsibility for the technical side of things since 2008 and was appointed as Technical Director in 2016.
Corinium Radio started as a station which did 2 weekends of broadcasting each year but has grown to the extent that Corinium is now a 24/7 Internet radio station. I’m heavily involved in all aspects of the station from the technical side of things to the ‘on-air’ side of things, and I love hosting my own weekly show.
As well as making my own radio shows I listen to a lot of radio! Take a look at the Radio Listening Blog I ran for a year in 2012/13. My favorite stations are LBC and BBC Radio 2 but I dip in and out of most things.
I like reading books – Recently I’ve read Sir Robin Day, Peter Sissons, Jeremy Bowen and Jeremy Vine. I’m currently reading Bob Harris’ book.
I learn Greek (Modern Greek, that is) and travel to Greece each year. I have a Greek website too – you can find that at fred-hart.gr.
My third language is German – I learned it up to A level and have been to Germany a couple of times – visiting places all over including the Rheinland, Cologne, Munich, Berlin, Schwerin, Freiburg, Stuttgart, Hannover, Hamburg and Cirencester’s twin town Itzehoe.
Since 2015 I’ve been travelling to Germany regularly for short breaks – my aim is to get round all the States of Germany. I’m doing quite well now – in May I drove down to the Rheinland and covered much of the Southern states. Read more on my German website at fred-hart.de.
In my DVD collection… A couple of German films, the entire Yes Minister and Yes Prime Minister collection, lots of David Attenburgh documentaries and a Greek film as well.
And music wise… I listen to just about all types of music – pop, rock, jazz, blues, classical, folk, country…just listen to one of my radio show and you’ll se what I mean!
If you wish to contact me, my contact details are on the Contact page of the website.
