A Night in Yorkshire – Returning Home

Happy Sunday!

I stayed on Friday night with my cousin Sophie at her house in the North York Moors. The drive from Edinburgh, including a stop at Berwick-upon-Tweed, took about 4 and a half hours – not bad going for a Friday afternoon.

We had a lovely evening meal – a home made lasagna, ice cream afterwards, and sat down to watch a film on TV: The Shawshank Redemption. It isn’t one I have seen before but I enjoyed it.

The film tells the story of banker Andy Dufresne, who is sentenced to life in Shawshank State Penitentiary for the murders of his wife and her lover, despite his claims of innocence. Over the following two decades, he befriends a fellow prisoner, contraband smuggler Ellis “Red” Redding, and becomes instrumental in a money laundering operation led by the prison warden Samuel Norton.

There was also plenty of chat, catching up on what all the family are up to – sharing memories of Crowle over the years.

Going to bed around midnight, I was joined by a lovely grey cat who was very at home curled up on the end of the bed. Cat whisperer Fred strikes again! I do love cats, they seem to love me too!

Yesterday morning, I had a cooked breakfast of sausage, bacon, egg, black pudding and hash browns, cooked by Sophie’s husband Neil.

At 10am I set off on the journey South – arriving in Cirencester 5 hours later, just after 3pm.

Scottish road trip done – but I need to do a proper Scottish trip later in the year. This one was just a flying visit.

Good night,

FH.
