A Showcase of Gloucestershire Community Radio

I have been involved with Corinium Radio since its launch in 2006, and since then the station’s profile has grown massively – for the last 2 years we’ve held a stall at the annual Churn Family Fun Day and we’ll also have a stall at the Stratton Show this coming Monday. But we’ll also be “on-air” this Monday, increasing our profile even more.

Back in June we were sent an e-mail by a member of staff at BBC Radio Gloucestershire who was organising a community radio showcase programme, to be broadcast on bank holiday Monday (August 31). Corinium Radio was asked to send 3 clips, each of no more than 6 minutes, for possible inclusion in the broadcast.

In the end, four clips were actually decided on; and they were sent to the BBC a couple of weeks ago. The chosen clips reflect the wide coverage that Corinium Radio gives to various areas of the community – from Cirencester school children in a local library, to local councillors and local events. In addition to this, an interview with the current Corinium Radio chair person was recorded – about 2 weeks ago.

Whilst checking the e-mails this morning, Mum received one about the community radio showcase programme – announcing when it will be broadcast.

The clips will actually feature as part of another programme alongside those sent in by other community stations in the county as well as music, news, regular travel updates and all the other features that form David Smith‘s afternoon show. You can tune in to the programme between 16:00 and 19:00 on Monday evening and hear all about different Gloucestershire community radio stations!

Although I won’t feature in the programme, the editing for some of the clips was done by myself… and I’ll be listening carefully for the whole 3 hours to hear what other stations in the area do!

BBC Radio Gloucestershire is available on 104.7FM (Gloucester/Cheltenham/Tukesbury etc.), 95FM (Stroud), 95.8FM (Cirencester) and 1413AM (countywide) as well as online. The programme will also be available to listen again to for 7 days after broadcast via the BBC iPlayer.
