Hanbury Hall: Inside One of Worcestershire’s Finest Homes

I drove up to Hanbury Hall, a National Trust property near Droitwich in Worcestershire. The house is a real country retreat, offering a glimpse of life in rural Worcestershire in the 18th century. Fields, Friendship & Fresh Air: A Cambridgeshire Mini-Break

First impressions? Flat. Remarkably flat. (A notable observation when you live in the Cotswolds). The landscape opens up in a completely different way – vast stretches of arable farmland, long horizons, big skies. In places, the fields arenโ€™t edged with hedgerows at all, but simply separated from the road by a drainage ditch. It almost reminded me of the Gers in southern France ๐Ÿ‡ซ๐Ÿ‡ท – It has that same agricultural openness and understated rural beauty. Continue reading

A Winter Visit to Newark Park

Old Houses and More Animals

Saturday was a lovely Sunny day which, after sitting outside for breakfast, started with a tour of West Horsley Place – the old country house where the BBC comedy series Ghosts was filmed. This was followed by lunch with my cousin Tom at Polesden Lacey, a National Trust property – before a walk in the hills near the cabin and dinner at the local pub. Continue reading
