There have been some changes announced this week for both BBC Radio 2 and BBC 6 Music.
Starting from April 4th, the Radcliffe and Maconie Show will no longer be on Radio 2, but instead each weekday afternoon (1300 to 1600) on BBC 6 Music. Nemone therefore looses her weekday afternoon show, and instead launches an all-new Weekend Breakfast show on 6 Music.
Over on Radio 2, Jo Whiley launches a new weekday evening show – Monday to Wednesday 2000 to 2130. She will continue to host her Radio 2 In Concert programme, but will be leaving BBC Radio 1. Mark Radcliffe will also launch a regular Tuesday night programme, 2300 to 0000.
As someone listens to both Radio 2 and 6 Music, I’m looking forward to these changes; Radcliffe and Maconie will fit in well at 6 Music (and they get more air time). They probably will loose some listeners as a result (one only has to take a look at the listener comments on the BBC Radio 2 Facebook page to work this out)… but I’m sure the 6 Music listeners will welcome them!
I don’t listen to Jo Whiley on Radio 1 (I don’t listen to Radio 1 full stop), but I enjoy the In Concert show and look forward to hearing what the new Monday-Wednesday night show will be like. As for Mark doing an hour a week on Radio 2, I’m looking forward to that. When he did the Late Night show (2230 to 0000) I used to listen to the first half hour before going to bed each evening. In a way, I think I actually prefer Mark on his own to Radcliffe & Maconie.
This is the first major change for Radio 2 evenings since R&M launched in April 2007.
