Wednesday’s coast path walk was Helford Passage to Falmouth. Reaching Falmouth feels like quite a milestone as really it is the first large town along the path since Penzance – and Penzance was where I was walking in February 2022.
I parked up in Falmouth near the Maritime Museum and walked round to The Moor in order to get the bus to Helford Passage. The bus takes 25 minutes but the end of the route is a mile away from the coast path (extra walking!)
The beach at Helford Passage was the start of my walk – on the other side of the river from where I finished on Tuesday.
There’s a couple of interesting places along the way – Trebah Garden has its own private beach which you can see from the path (but to get on to the beach you have to pay to get in to the garden….from the path the beach is fenced off with access through a walkway which goes under a set of steps on the coast path.
Then of course there’s the National Trust – Glendurgan Garden, also worth a visit.
Other highlights along the route were the lovely village of Durgan. Rosemullion Head was a good spot to sit and eat lunch – it is at this point where I could finally see Falmouth (my destination)….it took another 2 and a half hours to reach Falmouth though. As I reached the outskirts of Falmouth you go past all the beaches: Swanpool Beach was where I stopped to sit down and eat the second half of my lunch. Gyllyngvase Beach near where I stayed during Covid, and Castle Beach which was badly hit in the storm the other night.
Unfortunately because my feet were hurting and I just wanted to get back to the car I skipped the Pendennis Castle headland – I suppose I could walk round that this morning just so I can say I’ve done it.
Today my walk will be from St Mawes to Portloe. I will be setting off shortly.
