11th September 2022: A historic day!
We had a great roast dinner at the Twelve Bells in Cirencester today and finished just in time to stroll up to the Market Place to watch the Proclamation.
The Town Crier read out the Proclamation – that Prince Charles was now King Charles III following the death of Queen Elizabeth II.
This is history in the making – This sort of event has not happened before in my life time.
It ocurred to me that Granny would have been about the age I am now, when the Queen became Queen…and just as my sister Corrie is now – Granny (and Grandpa) would, we think, have been in New Zealand at the time.
For me – the Queen was very much the same generation as Granny, and particularly in the years since Granny died, I saw that as being some sort of comfort.
