Sunday Afternoon Walk in Avebury

I’ve got 3 days off work this week – the first time since March I’ve not moved or cancelled days off I booked in the pre-Covid era. The original intention was to go to Germany for my birthday, but I never got as far as booking the ferry before the pandemic started and I never booked anything.

Instead I’m staying at home, doing a series of day trips and other interesting activities. Today I went with my sister to Avebury in Wiltshire. Avebury is not too far away but is somewhere I’ve never been.

Despite the weather it was actually quite busy when we arrived at lunch time – Or it felt it anyway. (In this Covid era something feels busy whenever you get within 2 metres of someone else even if just for a split second when there’s a whole group of you going through a small gate at the same time). Plenty of people out walking with their families, with their dogs, meeting friends (Tier 2 means no indoor mixing of course, but rule of 6 outdoors).

After our walk there was time for a look around the gift shop, and a takeaway hot chocolate from the café was welcomed. The village of Avebury itself also has a couple of small shops as well as a pub.

Avebury Manor and Gardens were closed but no problem – it is close enough that when the weather is better we will go back for a longer walk, a meal at the pub, and see the manor and gardens when they reopen.

A selection of photos from our walk are below.
