The second largest city in Germany – and one where I’ve spent a lot of time as it is only 45 minutes by car from Cirencester’s German twin town.
Not been to Hamburg for a couple of years though; the last time I was there was when I dropped my sister off at the Airport, after driving through rush hour traffic across the city to get there on the way back from Norway via Denmark, Sweden and Rostock.
My favourite areas of Hamburg are the Speicherstadt – the City of Warehouses, with the narrow canals and bridges leading out towards the main harbour. Be sure to visit the Miniatur Wunderland – model railway and minature airport as well as the Elbphilharmonie concert hall in the HafenCity district.
