Plans are now well under way for my month long visit to Greece this Summer – which I have decided to call my “Grand Tour of Greece”, which makes it sound much more exciting than it really is.

Four very good beaches on Syros can be found towards the island’s South coast.
For three days while we were on Syros we rented a car. Being a small island, three days is enough to get to some of the places less accessible by bus.
The capital of Syros – Ermoupoli (Ερμούπολη) – is also the capital of the South Aegean Region. Until the local government reforms of 2011 which saw the Prefectures abolished, Ermoupoli was also the capital of the Cyclades Prefecture.
The village of Galissas is really a small farming community – very quiet and very peaceful (even at the peak season in August) – like all towns and villages on Syros, really. But if you want something else to do – for a change of scene you can walk for 30 minutes to the next village: Finikas (Φοίνικας). Continue reading
