Last Thursday I did a day trip down to the South Coast where I saw Tiggy Walker, widow of Radio 2 DJ Johnnie Walker, doing a talk about her book ‘Both Sides Now’, all about her role as his carer during his final year of life.
The venue was a record store in Bridport – we decided that Johnnie was with us ‘in spirit‘ because of that.
I had the opportunity to speak to Tiggy afterwards and I told her about how, when I first started volunteering in radio, at the age of 13, I was asked by one of the trainers which radio DJ(s) I look up to – who inspires me. I named Johnnie Walker (at the time he was the presenter of Radio 2’s Drivetime show).
Great day and enjoyed the anecdoes of Johnnie. I will enjoy reading the book.
