Gloucester
Last Sunday was a very wet day – not the best way for being out and about – but as part of the ongoing Heritage Open Days Weekend I went on a tour of two boats which arer moored in Gloucester Docks.
The first – the Kathleen & May – is Britain’s last working three mast, wooden hull topsail schooner and the only one of her class still in operation. There was an exhibition on board the boat, all about the history of it. All under cover – to keep us dry and protected from the rain.
Later I went to have a look at the SULA Lightship, which I’d seen the talk about earlier in the week. As the rain poured we were all gathered for the tour in the lookout shelter at the top of the ship, under the foghorn. But it was good to see the ship and put in to context what had been spoken about on Friday’s talk.
I love the look of the SULA – I will have a look at maybe staying on it at some point in the future.
FH.
