Last weekend I drove down to Cornwall as I have not done so yet this year – and wanted to get some walking in before the schools break up and travel around the country becomes a total nightmare.
I stayed in Saint Keverne in a lovely AirB&B. My room in the bungalow was called “The Peacock“, it had a cat and a couple of dogs too!
On Saturday afternoon I walked from The Lizard to Kennack Sands, a walk of 9.29km which took about 2 hours.
Along the way I stopped off at the pub in Cadgwith, for a drink. After reaching Kennack Sands I spent some time at the beach there before heading up the coast to Porthallow, near where I was staying, to have dinner at the pub there. I had a pizza and sat outside on the beach eating it.
On Sunday after dropping the car at Porthallow I got a lift back to Kennack Sands to start the longer of the weekend’s walks.
Along the way I enjoyed seeing at least 4 seals out in one bay – I also had to follow the inland diversion due to a part closure of the path, but used this to stop at Roskilly’s for a drink and an ice cream.
I stopped for lunch in Coverack which I really liked – with the harbour and the boats, felt a bit like being in Greece.
It took me almost 6 hours to do the full walk, it was after 6 by the time I returned to Porthallow.
I will have to book a week away in Cornwall later in the year to try and tackle some more of the coast. I set my self the target of reaching Falmouth by the end of the year – I am well on my way there.
