With no need to check out of the hotel today I had a nice lie in before breakfast was delivered to my room (Covid does have its benefits, no need to mix with others in some hotel dining rooms).

After breakfast I had a short walk around Strathpeffer and I walked up to the Eagle Stone, near the house in which my Great Grandfather lived, possibly late 1920s?

Then I got in the car for today’s main task: To reach John o’Groats. The route took me through the UK’s Northernmost counties – from Strathpeffer in Ross & Cromarty, through Sutherland, and in to Caithness.

My first stop was Dunnet Head; the most Northern point of the UK Mainland – then it was on to John o’Groats to take a photo of the sign, browse the tourist shop and stop for lunch.

On the way back down to Strathpeffer I stopped briefly in Wick, Caithness’ former county town, then on to Latheronwheel Harbour, and I made a final stop in Golspie.

In the evening I drove out to the Black Isle and had a takeaway (pizza) while sitting on the beach in Cromarty.

Tomorrow I’m leaving Strathpeffer after breakfast and heading back up North to get the ferry to Orkney.
