Cirencester to Falmouth

I’m down in the South West this evening – the first night of a whole week away during which I will travel the length of the UK.

I left home early this morning and set off towards Cornwall. Saturday isn’t the best day to drive down the M5 but it could have been worse!

Before entering Cornwall I stopped off at Westward Ho! on the North Devon coast near Bideford. We used to stop there on the way to and from Cornwall many years ago – it has been quite a few years since we last had a holiday in Cornwall.

I had lunch on the beach (in the wind) then got back in the car and hit the road again.

From Westward Ho! it was another 2hrs 30min before I reached my first overnight stop of this week’s holiday: Falmouth – not an area of Cornwall I really know (I did drive past Bude and Sandymouth on the A39 earlier; that’s where we used to go) – but it was nice to see the sea, see some sunshine, and take a walk before dinner in the fresh air.

I had dinner not far from the main sea front. As I sat at my table I was told the menu could be accessed by scanning the QR code. Well I couldn’t figure that out, so a paper menu was required!!

Tomorrow an early start – breakfast booked for 07:30, afterwards I will head for Lizard Point and Land’s End, and then I will turn round and drive North – my aim being to get to the Lake District for tomorrow night.
