I loved waking up in the Spanish mountains this morning, sunlight pouring through the window. Breakfast provided by the B&B this morning was toast with olive oil, some jam, ham and cheese, a slice of cake, orange juice and a hot chocolate. Continue reading
As I came off the motorway I felt like I had arrived in a different country: In comparison to Salamanca, Northern Spain felt very Alpine – Very like Switzerland, or maybe Bavaria. I note that this area of Spain is relatively close for driving to from the UK so I might have to drive back here at some stage, I’m getting home with just one overnight stop in France. A new country today – one which I haven’t been to since I was very young (I don’t really remember that). A 3 hour drive from the Gers and I crossed the border in to España (Spain). Most of my driving on the French side of the border today was not on the motorway; I went cross country from Fleurance and didn’t get on the motorway until I was within touching distance of the border. After breakfast this morning I went for a morning swim which was lovely – especially as I had the pool to myself! I stayed at the pool for an hour then read my book on the beach for an hour. I set off from Angoulins just after 12. Continue reading

Finally after a 12 hour drive I can relax a bit. Today I’ve driven from Cirencester to the city of Orléans in Central France. I left at 3 this morning, and by dawn I was on the ferry from Dover to Calais. Continue reading
