Sunny Yorkshire

Better late than never! It was actually the end of last month when I went to the North of England – it’s just taken me a few weeks to write this short blog.

Pickering was our destination for the weekend, the reason for going there was a family party in nearby Lastingham, in the North York Moors.

Mum and Dad drove up on Friday – I drove up on Saturday morning but not before first going to Newport in South Wales to pick my sister up. Turned out to be a clear run most of the way to Yorkshire. From Newport I cut up to the M50, on to the M5, M42, A42 and then all the way up the M1 as far as the York (A64) junction. Made it to Yorkshire by lunch time.

For the weekend we stayed in a cottage in Pickering – it was small but quite good, with an outdoor yard we could sit in for breakfast and lunch times.

On Sunday morning we went to Goathland for a bit of a walk. Goathland is Heartbeat village and the railway station there was used in the Harry Potter films.

Monday was home time but before leaving Yorkshire we went to the beach – spent a bit of time at Hunmanby Gap – before heading South.

This was my first weekend away in this country this year – I keep saying to myself I’ll do more British nights away but never do! But that will be my aim in the Autumn and Winter.
