The Last Week of Waking with Wogan

I write at the start of the last week of Radio 2‘s Wake Up to Wogan. Sir Terry will be leaving the breakfast show after the programme on Friday morning.

He first started the breakfast slot in 1972 and continued until 1983, before taking a break from radio. He returned to the breakfast show in 1992 and has remained there ever since. Although personally, I have only been listening to the programme since 2003.

From February, Terry will be hosting a new Sunday programme, on air between 11am and 1pm. He will share the slot with Michael Ball; with Michael presenting for 4 weeks, followed by a 12 week stint by Terry. The programme will broadcast live from the 350-seat Radio Theatre in BBC Broadcasting House in London, where he will host a hour show featuring live musical performances and guests.

The weekday morning schedule from January 4 will look like this:

  • 0000-0200: Janice Long (looses 1 hour of airtime)
  • 0200-0500: Alex Lester (starts an hour early)
  • 0500-0700: Sarah Kennedy (starts an hour early; gains an extra 30 minutes of airtime)
  • 0700-0730: Chris Evans (moves from Drivetime; Breakfast gains an extra 30 minutes of airtime)

I will be listening to this last week of Wogan and I will look forward to his return in February. Chris Evans would be my choice of a breakfast time presenter, but as some members of the family said once, Evans is only keeping the seat warm until I’m allowed near a Radio 2 microphone. 😉
