On Thursday I had a lovely day out at Slimbridge, the WWT wetland centre not far from home, by the banks of the River Severn.
As well as a collection of non-native birds on site, there are also plenty of bird hides around the site for watching the wild birds which enjoy the local area. It is quite peaceful sitting in a bird hide watching the birds…..Don’t have to think too much – It is a good way of forgetting about all the stresses of everyday life.
My favourite birds to see were the Flamingos, the nēnē, and the Southern Screamer. They’re all within my collection of photos below.
Thursday was also a good day for visiting Slimbridge, because there was a visit from a very rare bird in the UK: A black-winged kite, normally found in Southern Asia, Sub-Saharan Africa, North Africa and Southern Spain, was spotted. It was too far away for me to see – I am not a birdspotter with binoculars and a lens bigger than my arm; But seeing all the birdwatchers taking a keen interest in it showed how special a moment it was, just to be there on that day.
