Big Cat Sanctuary

I stayed down in Kent for a couple of nights last week, in a caravan at a lovely campsite near Smarden.

The reason for my visit was that the Big Cat Sanctuary was doing an open day; I found out about the sanctuary during the 2018 documentary Big Cats About the House and have always wanted to visit ever since.

This year they did their first Autism/Sensory Friendly Open Day, and I got a ticket to go along.

It was fascinating seeing all the big cats up close; realising just how big and powerful some of them are. The cheetahs are my favourite big cats – So sleek and slender, bodies built for speed, and they meow and pur just like our own house cas.

I have become a member in order to be able to attend Members Days by the sanctuary in the future.

While I was in Kent I stayed in a little caravan which I found on AirB&B – essentially part of a campsite but the owners have a caravan on site which they rent out to those who can’t bring their own.

Smarden was the nearest village and on Thursday evening, to help wind down after spending the day at the sanctuary, I went to the Chequers Inn, the local pub, for a drink (I don’t do alcohol so was just on J2O).

I loved living in the caravan for a couple of days – it felt quite secluded, the area was nice and quiet with lovely surroundings, and I made myself very cosy in the caravan, cooking dinner and watching TV after dark, and also spending time reading my book.

Life doesn’t have to be complicated!

As August approaches I’ll probably have a quiet month (I don’t particularly like travel & sight-seeing during the school holidays) but fingers crossed I’ll be out and about again in September.
