I seem to have accidentally volunteered to drive a 4×4 to Ukraine, to be donated to Ukraine to help evacuate soldiers from the front lines. They are desperately in need of vehicles.
There’s one catch: I’ve been allocated to the departure on 30th July but need some help fundraising before I go.
Can you help me raise Β£5000?
There’s not much time so please spread the word and get donating:
My fundraising page is at https://donorbox.org/fredukraine
My drive is backed by Driving Ukraine. The fundraising helps the team there to buy vehicles for use in Ukraine by ambulance crews, 4×4 evacuation teams, first-aid responders, international volunteer medics, humanitarian bomb disposal units, hospitals, among others.

Why am I interested in helping Ukraine?
This is a war which is happening right on our doorstep. The distance from the UK to our destination, Lviv, is only around 1300 miles. When I drove to Portugal in 2023, that was a 1500 mile journey. Lviv is closer to the UK than where the majority of British people go on holiday.
That means the war impacts us all. Only the other day, in the Tesco car park in Cirencester, I spotted a car on Ukrainian numberplates. There’s a lot of UA registered cars about, even here in rural Gloucestershire. Germany, Poland, Czechia and the UK are the 4 countries which have taken the most Ukrainian refugees.
This is a conflict happening dangerously close to home. Supply chains have been disrupted, energy supplies impacted, and many countries in Europe have changed both domestic and foreign policy. There’s the security and stability implications of war too.
Apart from anything else, Ukraine’s borders were violated by the Russians – without provocation. In Europe, in this day and age, this cannot be tolerated.
If you can help me raise Β£5000 so I can complete this mission, that would be great. I know it isn’t much time!
After departure I’ll let you know of progress and hopefully be able to report a successful mission / successful delivery to Lviv in only a few weeks.
