This is perhaps my favourite time of year for doing my radio show on a Monday evening, because it is daylight outside when I start and still daylight outside when I finish. However as July runs in to August the 9pm finish will be closer and closer to sunet – by the time we reach the end of the month sunset is even before 9pm.
I loved some of the themes I did on the Monday evening show this month. My regular ‘Decades Night’ shows have reached the 1990s – The Nostalgic Nineties became my first theme of the month. I also enjoyed the Home and Away theme, which was all about travel, songs about staying at home, or going away. A good theme for the Summer holiday season. Another highlight, marking the start of school holidays, was School’s Out. (An excuse to play Alice Cooper’s School’s Out, and Pink Floyd’s Another Brick In the Wall).

As we move in to August, I’ve planned a new set of themes as follows:
Monday 3. August: The Cat’s Whiskers
Marking International Cat Day on 8th August: cats, kittens and bigger members of the cat family in song, along with suitably feline artists and bands.
Monday 10. August: Left Handed Legends
Ahead of International Left Handers Day on 13th August: music from notable left-handed singers and musicians.
Monday 17. August: Decades Night – Notable Noughties
The monthly decades night featuring music from 2000β2009, spanning pop, rock, indie, country, soul, dance and more.
Monday 24. August: Picture This
Inspired by World Photography Day on 19th August: photographs, cameras, snapshots and pictures, plus musicians with notable photographic connections.
Monday 31. August: As Heard On TV
TV themes plus songs that became hits, returned to the charts or found a new audience after being used in memorable television adverts and shows.
Plus, join me every Saturday morning, 9am-11am. Saturday 1, 8, 15, 22, and 29. August.
