On the Air: April 2026 – Spring Sunshine

I’ve loved putting together this month’s radio shows. April is Autism Awareness/Acceptance Month and so that featured prominently in one of my earlier shows this month (Different Minds, Different Sounds).

That particular show included a set of jingles I’d written to reference autism and my neurodiversity. But the highlight was the music I played that week, because I researched autistic artists / singers / producers, and songs about autism (or wider neurodiversity).

Since only 3 in 10 autistic people in the UK are in full time work, I feel it is important for autistic individuals to have people to look up to like that, so playing songs by autistic individuals was a great way to showcase the skill of neurodivergent people in the music industry.

Other favourite themes this month were my ’70s Spectacular, and of course there’s the upcoming Made In England theme this week. My Saturday shows have been very enjoyable to put together as well.

You can listen to all this month’s shows at FredOnTheRadio.uk/2026/04.

My Song of the Month

Of all the songs I’ve played this month, I’ve picked a classical piece as one of my favourites this month. The Waltzing Cat by Leroy Anderson. I played a version by the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra only this week!

Upcoming Themes

May 2026 sees me celebrating 20 years of broadcasting! (Does that make me a radio veteran before I’ve even reached 35!?), so tune in on 4th May for the 20th anniversary show. All of the themes on the Monday show coming up in May are:

Monday 4th May: Where It All Began
Marking 20 years of Cirencester Radio / Corinium Radio. I’ll be interviewing volunteers past and present as I celebrate two decades on the radio.

Monday 11th May: That Opening Sound
Instantly recognisable intros – Songs you recognise within seconds, before any vocals have started.

Monday 18th May: Europe Calling
Looking back on the Eurovision Song Contest 2026, with some of my favourite music from across Europe (and probably featuring some of my foreign-language jingles too).

Monday 25th May: No Plans Monday
The late May Bank Holiday, where it is perfectly acceptable to not have any plans, just stay at home and do nothing – and I’ll be playing songs which reflect this idea.

Plus of course I am live in the home studio every Saturday morning, 9am to 11am, on Saturday 2nd, 9th, 16th 23rd and 30th May. (OK: 30th May might be a pre-record as I’ll be on holiday in Devon/Cornwall with Mum and Dad).

Hope you’ll be able to tune in!

FH.
