Comedy in Glasgow

Today I had one main objective: Get to Glasgow in time for 12 midday. So I got up early, and was back on the road by 08:15.

I had a clear run all the way from Lancaster to Glasgow – no traffic at all – in fact because I was running ahead of schedule I had to try and delay my arrival in to Glasgow, as I didn’t want to arrive too early, given that I was intending to park at the venue and it wouldn’t be open until my planned arrival time.

I hope this won’t curse the journey back home next week, but this last couple of days has probably been the easiest and quickest drive to Scotland I’ve had. I do remember the time I was in stop-start traffic all the way from Gloucester to Manchester….that was a frustrating day!

Anyway….I made it to Glasgow and arrived in plenty of time for the show. After I had my ticket validated, I had time to grab a drink and sit on the terrace outside before the doors for the show opened.

The venue was Drygate Brewery in Central Glasgow and the show was a recording of BBC Radio Scotland‘s popular comedy programme, Breaking the News. They recorded for about an hour and a half, but the finished programme (to be broadcast tomorrow, repeated on Saturday – listen here on BBC Sounds) will be just 30 minutes.

This week’s panel were: Ashley Storrie, Scott Agnew, Athena Kugblenu and Sam Lake. Of those I only know of Ashley Storrie, a Scottish comedian and BBC Radio Scotland presenter who, like me, is also Autistic! Yay for Neurodiversity!

After the show had finished (and it really was very funny – but I won’t give anything away, you’ll have to listen), I left my car at the Brewery and went for a walk around Glasgow. I went to the Cathedral where I lit some candles for friends and work colleagues who I miss immensely, and then I walked around the Necropolis.

Getting back in the car and it was time to navigate Glasgow at rush-hour. That was fun. The M8 was…..slow…. Once I got off the M8 though, and hit the A roads – proper driving! I particularly enjoyed the scenic, twisty, windy, hilly route of the A760.

I got to Largs at 17:30 which was a good time to arrive – I had time to go for a walk before going for dinner, then watching the sunset.

Dinner tonight was at the local Indian restaurant where I had Haggis Pakora as my starter followed by a Chicken Tikka Masala with rice and naan bread.

Weather is looking good again tomorrow, I’ll try and get some cycling in tomorrow.

Good night / Oidhche mhath,

FH.
