Lairg to Anstruther

I left after breakfast yesterday to get on the road and start my journey back down South.

My first stop was Strathpeffer, a little to the North of Inverness. My route took me on some brilliant roads, including a B road with a view over the Dornoch Firth.

I stopped for a cream tea at the Old Railway Station Tea Room in Strathpeffer – Very tasty and set me up for my long drive. The route would be mostly on the A9 which, while dualled in some sections, is single carriageway a lot of the way down to Perth.

Then I got on the road. The A9, while slow at times (particularly when stuck behind something) does pass through some great scenery in the Cairngorms National Park.

In the Cairngorms I stopped at Kingussie and took a long walk up to the Creag Bheag Summit, it was a long way up but the views from the top were very good!

Then it was back on the road and when I eventually reached Perth I hit the first traffic jam in nearly a week……

I stopped for a sandwich and a hot chocolate before getting back on the road – A short hop on to the UK’s most Northern motorway (the M90) and then it was on to B roads to cross in to Fife and drive down to Anstruther, for my final night in Scotland.
