Making the Most of the Sunshine: Sandymouth Bay

Sandymouth Bay, Cornwall

I think during our week away today has the best weather – wetter and cooler as the week goes on. Today therefore, we made the most of that.

Dad was up early (7am) to go fishing – within an hour he’d caught one fish – 20lbs carp – that was him happy. He caught another fish before his morning session ended (just after he’d started packing up).

I also wandered around and said hello to some of the animals – including goats and sheep. There are horses too.

Mum and I, meanwhile, drove in to Holsworthy to do a little bit of shopping. Back together in our barn conversion, we decided to go to the beach.

It must have been the best part of 20 years since we last went to Sandymouth Bay. We used to stay at the holiday park there for long weekends.

While at the beach the Sun came out and we got a couple of good hours at the beach – a paddle in the Sea (which Dad thought was freezing), read a couple of chapters of my book as well.

On the way back from Sandymouth, as we drove back towards Bude, we seemed to have become part of a convoy of trucks, all flashing their lights and tooting their horns. This turned out to be the South West Truckers Convoy – where 50 vehicles take children with learning disabilities, to an adventure park further up the coast. As we joined the A39 leaving Sandymouth, we had now become part of this convoy!

For dinner, we went to Holsworthy Golf Club for their Sunday Carvery. I had beef & turkey, and for pudding, a salted caramel ice cream cheesecake with clotted cream, which was very good.

Tomorrow, the rain comes….

Good night,

FH.
