After touring the Aviation Museum in Wernigerode, I set off for the city of Erfurt, capital of Thuringia. The first part of the journey was on country roads passing through some nice looking towns and villages. If I had more time I’d have stopped – maybe next time!
After stopping for lunch at the services I got back on the road and continued on to the town of Wernigerode, in Sachsen-Anhalt, where I stopped off at the Luftfarhtmuseum (Aviation Museum).

After leaving the war museum at Overloon I headed towards the German border. My destination was Cologne – Germany’s fourth largest city – and I would be driving right in to the city centre.
The route to Overloon, in the Netherlands, takes me round the Antwerp Ring before crossing in to the Dutch province of North Brabant.
The first leg of my German road trip 2018 took me to De Panne, on the Belgian coast near the French border.
