Working as a Health Development Officer at Cotswold District Council, Jan played an instrumental role in helping bring the idea of a local radio station to life, despite having no prior experience in broadcasting. What began as part of a professional role soon became something much more personal, as Jan reflects on the joy of building something meaningful for the community.
Jan shares how community radio was seen as a powerful tool for improving mental wellbeing and strengthening social connections, bringing together people from all walks of life, many of whom would never otherwise have met. She recalls the unique atmosphere of those early broadcasts, and the incredible mix of voices that helped shape the station in its formative years.
Looking back, Jan reflects on the moment the project began to grow beyond its original roots as volunteers took ownership and the station found its own direction, and what it meant to step back and watch something she helped create continue to flourish.
Twenty years on, this is a story of community, connection, and the lasting impact of a project built by and for the people it serves.
