Happy New Year and I hope you’re well! This is my first blog post of 2026. I had a good Christmas at home with Mum, Dad, and my cats Sooty, Ziggy and Jรคger.
For Christmas I was given a book all about the best places to visit around the UK – so for 2026, my project is to get around as many of these as possible. Makes a change to international travel but it is sometimes nice to be a tourist in your own country.
I started on New Years’ Eve by going to visit Avebury with Mum. It has been 5 year since I last went – with my sister during the Christmas period in 2020. This time round the weather was sunnier and drier – and of course, no more social distancing rules!
We were slightly too late to visit the Manor House, so I returned on Sunday. Last time I went to Avebury the house was closed, and it was nice to see it open (dressed for Christmas) – after 2 years being closed. The house has since closed again, and it will reopen in the Spring following further renovation work.
It was bitterly cold when I returned on Sunday! The car registered the temperature as being 2 degrees, but I reckon it was well below freezing. The pond was totally frozen over and it was like the gardens were frozen in time.
