ID Perspective

Perspective sits within modern adult contemporary, shaped by balance, space, and a sense of measured reflection rather than overt momentum. Its tone is neutral but purposeful, designed to support sequencing and spoken moments without imposing a strong stylistic direction of its own.

The ident was originally developed as a bespoke piece for 2025: A Year in Music, where it was used to frame retrospective links and thematic reflection. As it evolved, its core musical qualities proved adaptable beyond that specific context. Subsequent sub-mixes removed references to My Year in Music, allowing Perspective to transition into a permanent element within the Fred On the Radio package.

While the version featuring backing vocals remains the primary mix, an alternate version without backing vocals emerged during development as a particularly effective editorial tool. Its restraint and openness have made it especially versatile on air, and over time it may naturally assume the role of the main ident. This evolution reflects a wider principle within the catalogue – that longevity and prominence are earned through practical use, not predefined hierarchy.

My Year In Music – The original iteration (and master mix) of this ident.
Main Mix – Simply the ‘My Year In Music’ jingle with the opening vocal removed.
Lite Mix – Backing vocals before the ‘Playing Something for Everyone’ lyric taken out, this version of the ident is slightly more versatile on air and is my preferred version. This may well supersede the main mix over time, depending on usage.
