20th Anniversary Memories – Geoff Carr

Ahead of the 20th Anniversary  of Cirencester Radio, Geoff Carr looks back on the very beginnings of the station – from the first Corinium Radio broadcasts to the evolution of what is now Cirencester Radio.

Geoff reflects on setting up the station at a time when none of the early volunteers had formal radio experience, and how learning on the job became part of the station’s DNA. He talks through the technical challenges faced over the years, from early broadcast setups to keeping the station on air as technology, studios and expectations changed.

The conversation also traces the station’s different studio bases, how each move shaped the way programmes were made, and the sense of community that developed around the station as it grew. Geoff shares his memories of favourite programmes and presenters, and reflects on what makes community radio distinctive and resilient.

Finally, he considers the legacy of the station – what it has meant to Cirencester, how it has created opportunities for volunteers over two decades, and why its founding principles still matter today.

A thoughtful and revealing conversation with one of the voices who helped shape the station from the very beginning.
