After a lovely cooked breakfast at the B&B, I checked out and set off. I spent the morning in Largs, enjoying the sunshine on the sea front; Fitting in time for cake and ice cream.
Largs is a lovely little town – the last time I visited (August 2020), it was only a day trip when I was staying in Ayr and I didn’t see much of the town. So the last couple of days have been lovely.

From Largs I drove North up to Wemyss Bay, where I got on the ferry (the CalMac vessel MV Argyll) for the 35 minute crossing to Bute.
The weather today was really sunny but with a cold North Easterly breeze bringing in polar air. A case of wrap up warm. But in those moments where either the wind drops, or you get out of the wind, it’s actually really hot.
Sitting on the ferry travelling West, I was sheltered from the wind and could take my had, coat and jumper off. Then as the ferry swung round to dock in Rothesay, I quickly had to wrap up again. Even so – wall to wall sunshine with not a cloud in the sky, is not what I am used to in Scotland. Despite the cold I am making the most of this weather.

Sunshine, whether I am warm or cold, makes me feel so much better. Must be the vitamin D….Seriously though – Vitamin D is important in muscle and nerve function – and also triggers the production of dopamine (thinking aloud here); Therefore this is a good thing for both my autism, and some of the side effects of my Essential Tremor condition (depression, apathy, poor sleep, muscle pain and muscle fatigue). I suppose what I’m saying if that I was born in the wrong country. I should be living in Greece. Mum….?
Tomorrow there shouldn’t be any wind so it will be much warmer for the next few days.
I’ve gone off on a tangent, sorry. Once I had arrived in Rothesay (the main town on Bute) I checked in at my B&B before heading off to walk around town and explore what will be my home for the next couple of days.
There’s a castle to visit, the Isle of Bute Discovery Centre, and the Bute Museum – plenty to do – plus a selection of bars and restaurants. I picked up some guide books from the Discovery Centre, including a Motorists Guide to Bute (specifically designed for motorists and cyclists looking to explore Bute in a short space of time), and a guide to one of the walks I was recommended by Keith from the B&B I was staying at in Largs. I’m going to try that walk tomorrow afternoon.
My accommodation is a lovely B&B set in quite an old building, looking North East out of Rothesay across to the Cowal peninsular. I’ve got a sea view from the first floor. The breakfast room downstairs has a lovely view too, sofas at the front looking out the window, and I can also use it if I want to bring a takeaway back. Tea, coffee, hot chocolate, soft and alcoholic drinks available on request. I may have a takeaway one night while I’m here.

For dinner I went to the Esplanade Bar & Restaurant opposite the ferry terminal and had a lovely Cumberland Sausage & Mash.
I’ve had some very late nights recently (as a result of long days), so today I’m going to shut my laptop down shortly and watch a bit of TV before bed.
Good night,
FH.
