Beach Day: Falmouth and Kynance Cove

Yesterday was my last day in Cornwall and the day for returning back home to Cirencester. As forecast the weather improved and was dry all day – A lovely day of Sunshine – and I decided not to walk, but instead went to the beach.

These photos are taken from where I was staying – the lovely little hut / apartment / studio I had for the week. Fully self catering, quite a distance from the main road and with a lake (filled in quarry) on my doorstep, it was a lovely quiet, secluded place to stay. I found it on Booking.com but it is also on AirB&B I think. It’s called Tresahor Studio on Booking.com. Highly reccomended!

After a morning packing up, reading my book outside, etc. etc. I set off for Falmouth – last minute gifts to buy and I’d seen some bits I thought they would like. Whenever I go away I like to buy a couple of bits for my best friends Anne-Marie, Sophie and Naomi. I shouldn’t do but I love the three of them so much that it just sort of happens.

Falmouth was lovely and Sunny as I stood by the harbour watching the St Mawes Ferry departing.

Then I drove down towards the Lizard – which since I’ve been doing my coastal walks has become one of my favourite places in Cornwall, ever since I had a lovely week on the Lizard peninsular in September 2022. I went to my favourite beach down there – Kynance Cove. On a warm sunny day it feels like being in the Med!

I spent a good 3 hours on the beach – the first half of that time sitting on the pebbles at the top while the tide went out before moving down on to the sand below once the tide had gone far enough. I sat reading my book – I powered through most of my book that afternoon!

From Kynance Cove I set off at about 16:00 for the 235 mile drive back to Cirencester, which I did in a little over 4 hours, including one stop. There’s 2 service stations on the way to/from Cornwall that I like to use – there’s a BP petrol station and the Whitehouse Restaurant just outside Okehampton, and just a few miles after that (going towards Exeter on the A30) at Whitton Down there’s a petrol station with a Morrisons, Greggs and the Hog & Hedge restaurant. If I want a quick stop and grab something from the petrol station I’ll go to Whitton Down, if I want to sit down and eat a proper meal I go to the Whitehouse.

I made it home just at about 20:15. Clear run home, no traffic problems – and slept very well after my lovely day on the beach.

Until next time, Cornwall,

Good night,

FH.
