Christmas 2010 – Radio Highlights

There’s loads to listen to on the radio this Christmas. Here are some of the highlights of programmes I’ll be listening to.

Monday to Friday until New Year’s Eve: Craig Charles sits in for Steve Wright (1400, BBC Radio 2).
BBC 6 Music presenter Craig Charles presents BBC Radio 2’s afternoon show for 2 weeks.

Wednesday 22. December: Music from the Decades (1600, 1Radio.org)
My last radio show before Christmas! This week, there’s music from Elton John, the Pogues, Orchestral Manoeuvres In the Dark and the Pet Shop Boys. Plus, this week’s Greek track comes from Anna Vissi.

Christmas Eve: Tom Ravenscroft (2100, BBC 6 Music)
Tom has a Christmas special with a mix from Ergo Phizmiz and special session tracks.

Christmas Eve/Day: Mark Lamarr (2300, BBC Radio 2)
Mark Lamarr’s last show, playing a gamut of music from hip hop to gospel and country to rocksteady.

Christmas Day & Boxing Day: Chris Hawkins (0500, BBC 6 Music)
Come and join the early morning family!

Christmas Day: Junior Choice Christmas Special (0800, BBC Radio 2)
Ed ‘Stewpot’ Stewart presents a special Christmas edition of the evergreen Junior Choice.

Christmas Day: Solid State Brain – A Tribute To Kenny Everett (Throughout Christmas Day, 1Radio.org)
Kenny Everett was born on Christmas day in 1944. In this show we remember the legendary broadcaster with clips, jingles and rare interviews.

Christmas Day: When Jools Holland Met Eric Clapton (2200, BBC Radio 2)
Jools Holland chats to fellow blues lover Eric ‘Slowhand’ Clapton.

Boxing Day: Weekend Wogan (1100, BBC Radio 2)
The Best of Weekend Wogan from 2010 with a feast of live music from some of the great artists who have graced the Weekend Wogan stage.

Monday 27. December & Tuesday 28. December: Music from the Decades (1000 Mon & 1100 Tues, 1Radio.org)
Fred plays music from the 1950s to today. Christmas Day may have been and gone, but that’s no reason to put the the festive music away just yet…

Monday 27. December: The Real 1970s with Bob Harris (1900, BBC 6 Music)
Bob Harris charts how the music of the 70s evolved from pyschedelic hippies to post-punks.

Wednesday 29. December: 6 On 2: Huey Morgan (2000, BBC Radio 2)
Fun Lovin’ Criminal Huey Morgan brings his individual New York style to BBC Radio 2. Huey will be hosting the Saturday midnight to 3am slot on Radio 2 as of April 2011.

Wednesday 29. December: Sally Boazman: In Search of A British Route 66 (2200, BBC Radio 2)
Sally goes on a musical journey around Britain to find the country’s very own ‘Route 66’.

New Year’s Eve: Tony Blackburn (1900, BBC Radio 2)
Join Tony Blackburn for three hours of classic Motown, Atlantic and Stax soul tracks.

New Year’s Day: Jon Holmes (1700, BBC 6 Music)
Seasonal topical chat and banter, with Charles from Slow Club playing Ken Bruce Master, and Shad shares knowledge in Encyclopedia Rocktanica. There’s also a round of ‘band I found on myspace or…’.

New Year’s Day: Levi Roots’ Lovers Rock (2200, BBC Radio 2)
Musician, entrepreneur and chef Levi Roots makes his first appearance as a radio DJ on New Year’s Day, hosting a two-hour special dedicated entirely to lover’s rock.

Monday 3. January: Richard Madeley sits in for Chris Evans (0630, BBC Radio 2)
Richard Madeley sits in for Chris Evans with a fully interactive show for all the family, featuring music, special guests and listeners on the phone.
